Need help with my new oscar fish?
I have a two inch black tiger oscar i just bought him two days ago for my 75 gallon tank. My water is cycled and the ph level is at 7.0.I have the heater set at 76 degrees f. And i tried feeding him the first and second day but he stays behind my decor rock inside his tank. Now on occasion he will come out and swim back and fourth from the bottom to the top but wont eat anything. Today is the third day in his new home and i just wanted to know if thats normal or should I take him back to his first home? Any advice will be helpful thank you all!
Oscars are quite the pushovers for cichlids and don’t respond well to change. It may take days or even a couple of weeks to get used to you and his new home, but he’ll come around. Your temperature and ph are fine.
Try to avoid all the misinformation you’ll hear about Oscars.
Feeder fish are junk food for Oscars (they eat invertibrates, insects, and even berries in the wild), so feed wisely. If you get another Oscar as a ‘friend’ they will end up fight each other unless they miraculously end up a breeding pair. They do not ‘need’ any specific PH. You may already know all this but I feel the need to correct the nonsense going on.
