What species of fish is a Pleco?
Thanks for your reply, much appreciated. Obviously I am a novice. I passed my oscar in an aquarium shop, he jumped out of an ancient urn, followed me ……. now we are great chums. With regard to knowledge, I'm learning as I go. The Electric Blue got me to keep Oscar company.
Pleco's are great in a tank with an oscar …. Just make sure the pleco is quite large (and tank – make sure you have room for one), and logs or similar that it can fit into, but oscar cannot. – Pleco's are armored algae eaters (catfish family) They have bony plates over the body except their underside, their skin in a really tough leather and not an easy target for Cichlids while they are moving fast. – Pleco's grow fairly quickly and can grow to about 45cm mark I've seen bigger ….. you can get all the different colors (gold spot, gold, stripped normal etc) – They eat blood worms, algae and vegies along with any left over food on the bottom. I have had great success with Pleco's and Oscars along with other United Nations and African Cichlids. Another catfish that goes well even grow BIG is Salmon catfish …. they eat everything in the aquarium, so no prob's with the left over food etc.. They just do not eat algae.
