Simple Ice Fishing Equipment
Choosing the right tools and equipment for ice fishing is a relatively easy task. There are several important pieces of gear that are essential for fishing on the ice. The most obvious is a fishing rod with lines and hooks and something to cut through the ice. If you forget to bring these pieces of gear so you will not be able to go ice fishing at all. So be sure to bring them.
To cut through the ice you will either have a saw, an auger that is motorized or not, or some evil temper to punch your way through a couple inches of ice. If you are switching providers switch it out for ice cream or go a long way so I do not recommend bringing a motorized cochlea. This is a heavy piece of gear that will weigh you down and make for a miserable time trudge to your ice fishing destination. If you are on foot or just want to save the environment by not to use gas, I suggest that you cut through the ice with an ice saw. This will be much easier to bring along on your trek to the frozen sky, you will be exposed.
Another piece of ice fishing equipment you will need if you really want to do some ice fishing is a pole with line and some hooks. There are different types for ice fishing rods with different functions depending on the type of ice fishing, you want to do. One style of ice fishing rod is called a tip up. The tip-up is designed to "Tip up" when you get a strike. That way you will not have to hang on your pole for hours. For ice anglers out there who want to keep a tight grip on their pole so I suggest getting a strong rod with a flexible tip. The line you use is entirely dependent on what kind of fish you're after. Heavy fish require heavy lines. It seems to make sense.
One thing I also want to mention is the warm clothes that you will surely bring. The only problem with ice fishing is that it is usually pretty dang cold outside when you do it. So you will need to pick up nice and warm. I suggest a coat, two layers of gloves and mitts and the biggest warmest boots you may get hand or feet. Snow pants are also a large piece of ice fishing gear to keep you nice hot.
If you will be leaving on ice of any kind, you also need to think about safety. Ice fishing is perhaps not the most extreme sport out there but it still kills more people each year. Some people fall through the ice and die of cold, while a few ice anglers wild out there while hunting on rivers and streams to fish on. This requires that you put a few pieces of gear, it is possible to save your life. These pieces are ice picks to help you to pull yourself out of ice if you fall through. These are generally only two spikes, which is worn around the neck or near the sleeves on your jacket. Another piece of safety gear you want bring on your travels is a friend. There is nothing better than to have someone to look out for you, especially when you're freezing cold and wet. I would also suggest that you bring a map and compass at the very least you will have a general knowledge on area. This these tips and suggestions you may have a wonderful time on the ice. Now get out there and enjoy your winter paradise.
