When you where a kid did you ever go swimming in floodwater without knowing just how to swim using a life vest?
I did and yes I know now just how dumb I was.PS yes there was snakes, gator turtles and dead cows in there with me. I just didn’t see them till I got in there and got stuck up a tree.THEN I saw them. Yes this really happened and yes I got a whooping once dad fished me out.
Yes it was the winter of 1969 or 68, I was around 12 then the rivers and creeks around my house were flooding over. A group of friends and I decided to try our skills at rafting the great Santa ana. Never before had it been done and only once since then in safer conditions. Three of us survived the adventure, one was found two days later down at the beach. The Army corp of engineers has on the river in several locations debris catchers these are killers and have never been removed. We didn’t know the danger then, we do now. It is a sad memory now.
