sauger fishing ohio river

seeks to go sauger fishing ………….?
I am planning a weekend trip to Clover Port on the Ohio River to fish for sauger. I've never really caught just for sauger. was wondering if someone could provide some useful information on what kind of bait I have to use (I presume minnows), where I have to manipulate attention and hooks. thanx for any information. also hook size, how much, what color? I heard use gold hooks …….
Hope you have a wonderful time in my state of Ky One suggestion I have is you will not be that far from Cannelton locks and dam. You do not mention weather you would fish out of a boat or from land. But below the dam this time of year is your best bet. Careful how you rich (line, bait, hooks, etc.) there are some big fish in the Ohio River, and if you plenty of light you could have a very frustrating day. Would suggest no more than 8 pounds line with or for the light pole. Bait wheel or spinning one will work. Minnows or small shiners as bait will be the best, they will also capture, LM & SM Bass, Hybrid Bass, White Bass, Cat fish, which are all in this section of river. Hook size under bait size you use, and will propose a circle style hook. Unfortunately, long sense I have that style of fishing, making Bass Tournaments now. Have fun and Good Luck.
