What bait and test line should i use for blacktail shark?

I live near tybee island (That is were we fish off coast) we caught stufff like whiteing, stingray and cobia but were going blacktip fishing next time we go out. if you have any suggestions tell me please!

Blacktip are a fairly large fish, even though they are not very large for a shark. The tip to ask around with locals is a good one, but if you can’t find the info I’d start with a 16 to 30 pound test line. That’s what is often used in competition. Some recomend higher strengths such as 50 to 60 pound since it’s easier for the shark novice. For bait the best is usually considered barracuda, though that can be hard to get unless you have the time to go cuda fishing a day before your shark trip. Barracuda is a stinky fish with plenty of blood scent so it attracts for miles around.

If you can’t get cuda any bloody meat will do. Some fishermen use beef for its high blood to meat ratio. Some however claim that beef doesn’t produce the fishy oils that also attract sharks and so is not as productive as fish meat. Clam, octopus, squid and other non-fish seas creatures do not work well as chum/bait.

Set up a chum line on the back of your boat and stick a big bloody fish head or two on it. Then troll the boat in circles slowly for a little while and cast your lines.
