wilderness systems fishing kayak

What is the best Kayak?
I'm about to lose 100 pounds. As a reward of 50 pounds lost I would buy a fishing vessel Kayak. I will still be a big guy at -50 lbs so I sold the Wilderness System Kayaks. The only question is the 135 Ride or Tarpon better. They are about the same price (expensive) but I will only make this purchase once. Which is better and what is the difference between the two?
I have not paddled either, but from looking at the specs and pictures, it looks out to Ride is designed more for stability while Tarpon will have better speed and responsiveness. The Ride has a wider beam (32 "with 28/30" to Tarpon 140/120). And just from pictures, seems to be riding a flatter hull. This should make it very stable on flat water (but not necessarily in rough conditions), but it will also make it a little more sluggish. On the other hand, looks like the Tarpon have a little more of a 'V' shaped keel, which will give it a little more speed. I think Tarpon will still be plenty stable – maybe it might feel wobblier if you try to stand up in it or something. My take is that riding can be good if you just plan to take it out in the middle of a lake to fish. But if you try to go longer distances, paddle to destinations, or get into the more exposed conditions, Tarpon can be a little more versatile. The best thing to do is get to a local kayak shop and demo boats. Try to get every last at least an entire day, perhaps several days, and go with what-you-want. And congratulations on weight loss. Kayaking is great exercise, and fun enough that you do not even realize you are working out.
